A few months back I started making these ladies that I came to call the
Mourning Ladies. The Grandmothers - the Mothers - Sisters - Aunts.......the
wise, strong women that are steadfast against all odds.
I had no idea what I was doing, but working, shaping and kneading
the air dry clay seemed to be helping me work through the
grieving process. Sometimes I would spend hours
working with the clay, other times an hour here or
there - a respite for my worrying brain.
They each took on their own unique personality, little
did I know I was actually doing a form of art
therapy! The process of adding trinkets is always
fun. Pictured above our first lady holds a smoky quartz,
helping to keep her grounded. The middle lady has
gathered precious wishing stones. The third gathers
various crystals.

I stumbled upon the work of Barb Kobe and
The Healing Doll Way..........I was in tears, this
art therapy expression really spoke to my heart.
Ironically I was literally carving my way back to me. I
think we tend to lose ourselves as caregivers, giving
so much or our energy to our loved ones who
are suffering.
Take care of you!
