Well this was a fun project!
"Serene Thought"
Don't you just love how youtube pops up these videos that you may like?
That's how I found the channel of "kacha"!
If you go back 3 years on her channel and start at the
beginning you'll learn all you need to do one of these decoupage creations.
I found an abundance of rice paper choices on Etsy. Keep digging!
At first I thought re-design by prima was the go to choice, but I found
so many other offerings by doing a search "rice paper decoupage".
The above rice paper decoupage is 23" x 33" and cost $13.95!
Seems a small price for massive impact.......and of course the labor!
I started out with a blue chest that needed three coats of chalk paint (Waverly), sanding
in between coats. The most important part according to kacha is to clean your
furniture before painting and sanding too!
The spacing between the drawers on this chest is pretty wide, about 1.75". At first I tried
to place the decoupage on the drawers and spaces in between - and it
was a nightmare! So as you can see I trimmed in between the drawers, while
still keeping the image in tact. I used modpodge, although the manufacturer
suggests a gel paste. The rice paper itself has a kind of nylon feel to it.
I did use some of the blending techniques I had learned on kacha with black
paint while sponging on gold along the edges.
I love this piece that now lives in my bedroom!
