Holy Moly............
The positive: Waterproof - non-toxic
The negatives: Where do I begin!!!!
I became interested in working with apoxie sculpt after seeing the beautiful bird feeders
that Robin Mead was making.
This video is part 3 of a 4 part series which you can find on
Robin Mead's youtube channel.
This stuff is so hard to work with!! Serious wrist damage!
It's $30+ for 8oz, in 2-parts. I used about 3/4 of a container
to make a teenie tiny bird feeder! It's about 4"w with a 2"depth.
The cost is simply too prohibitive for the material..........and the labor, wow!
So this was my finished product, not too shabby.
Did I mention that this stuff sticks to everything!!
Robin's process is that she shapes her clay on the outside of a bowl
and then pops it off........well mine didn't pop off! I guess I left it on too long
and I truly had to pry it off the bowl! When dry the apoxie is so strong and solid.
All in all I was happy for the experience, as I do like to experiment
with new craft ideas. I do plan on using the little bowl I made for
the birdies!
But I have no desire to work with apoxie sculpt again!
In case you plan on trying there's another step and of course I went all out
and purchased several pebeo porcelaine 150 paints. When used with the
apoxie sculpt and baked in the oven you're supposed to get a ceramic
look finish. Robin didn't seem overly impressed and well I ran
out (or threw out what I messed up) of the apoxie before even attempting
the paint process! Oh well........add to the shelf of future maybe's!
Happy Crafting!
